A $140 million road safety and network renewal works package will be fast-tracked across Queensland over 18 months starting from January 2017.

Queensland Minister for Main Roads and Road Safety, Mark Bailey, said the program will focus on a number of improvements, including road resurfacing and sealing, line markings and lighting, bridge upgrades, culvert replacements and intersection upgrades.

“Importantly, it will also mean more jobs opportunities will be available sooner, particularly in regional Queensland,” Mr Bailey said.

“The funding opportunity was identified in the Queensland Transport Road Investment Program (QTRIP) which is delivering record funding for road and transport projects of more than $20 billion over four years, and creating nearly 16,000 jobs.

Mr Bailey said Transport and Main Roads would continue to work on identifying long-term works in the program which they can also move forward.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to accelerating works as fast as possible to help improve infrastructure and create jobs right across Queensland,” Mr Bailey said.
