The first phase of the $10.8 million Jetty Road causeway redevelopment at Casuarina Boat Harbour is underway, with the project being a key part of Stage 2 of the Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront project.
Department of Transport Director of Project Delivery, Cameron Smith, said that in the next few weeks, contractors would start trucking the 24,000t of locally sourced rocks to site for placement along the causeway to strengthen the structure.
Mr Smith said the causeway rock refurbishment was expected to be complete by mid-2019, triggering Phase 2 of the project, which will see the roadway reconstructed, 164 parking bays created, landscaping, and construction of public toilets and other facilities, if the budget allows.
“Every effort is being made to limit the impact of the work on the surrounding community and harbour users, with restrictions on truck movements and continued access to boat pens on the causeway,” Mr Smith said.
“Trucks working on the project are only allowed to operate from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and will finish at 5pm on Saturday. DoT’s on-site supervisor will work closely with the contractor to minimise noise and dust, and the truck speed has been capped at 4km/h for increased community safety.
“While there’s no access to the causeway beyond the jetties for the duration of the project, penholders will have dedicated parking close to the jetties and will be updated on the progress of works.”
