The Victorian Government has announced it will deliver two new train stations and upgrades for a third in a $200 million package for Melbourne’s western suburbs.
The investment will deliver a brand-new station at Tarneit West, an overhaul of the existing Albion station and planning works for Truganina Station.
Victorian Minister for Transport Infrastructure, Jacinta Allan, said the new facilities will accommodate future plans for increased services and the Western Suburbs growing population.
“We’re supporting the growing communities in Melbourne’s west – delivering new stations to ensure locals can get to where they need to go safer and more easily,” Ms Allan said.
“By rebuilding Albion station, we are getting ready for Melbourne Airport Rail and the Metro Tunnel, both of which will provide further public transport links to the CBD.”
At Tarneit West, the new station will include a pedestrian crossing, a four-bay bus interchange and parking for up to 400 commuters.
The new Tarneit West station will be located on Davis Road and in conjunction with the planning for a new Truganina station, it will better connect the growing suburbs in the west to the CBD.
Albion station will be rebuilt to become a modern and accessible station – providing an important boost to this growing precinct.
The station will be rebuilt as part of the Melbourne Airport Rail project. The new station will prepare the Sunbury line for additional Metro Tunnel services when it opens in 2025.
