The South Australian Government has committed $50 million to fund the first stage of the AdeLINK tram network.

The funding will deliver a one kilometre extension along North Terrace from King William Street to East Terrace and will also feature three new stops servicing the universities and the Old Royal Adelaide Hospital site.

The investment will provide a new service to the bustling East End shopping, restaurant and tourism precinct, while further invigorating the city’s cultural and education boulevard.

The extension forms stage one of EastLINK, with future stages planned to the eastern suburbs through Kent Town to the eastern suburbs.

The extension is also the first step in the CityLINK loop around Adelaide’s CBD.

A $4 million business case is already underway to identify precise routes and stops, as well as environmental and land value benefits, and project cost estimates.
