Three construction companies have been shortlisted for the removal of the level crossing at the Melton Highway in Sydenham in northwest Melbourne.

The three bidders shortlisted are:

  • BMD Constructions
  • Seymour Whyte Constructions
  • WBHO Infrastructure and Rizzani de Eccher Australia

The bidders are invited to submit a request for tender which will be assessed in order to select the preferred constructor for the project.

Key considerations for the assessment include:

  • The quality of the proposed design solution
  • The proposed urban design
  • Value for money

The preferred contractor will be announced by the end of 2016 with construction to begin shortly after.

Community consultation in Sydenham began in February 2016 to identify local issues and assist tenderers to develop their design proposals.

Further community consultation will take place to allow for comment on key issues including the planned changes to traffic flows, and the look and feel of the area once construction is completed.

The preferred contractor will work closely with the community and local businesses to ensure the construction period  has minimal impact.
