A $3.5 million safety and efficiency upgrade has been completed on the Great Northern Highway at the intersection of North West Coastal Highway in the Pilbara in Western Australia.

Western Australian Minister for Transport, Bill Marmion, said the project involved realigning the intersection to give vehicles on the Great Northern Highway priority as well as the installation of turning pockets and acceleration lanes.

“These works will improve safety and efficiency at this intersection, which accommodates about 1,440 heavy vehicles a day,” Mr Marmion said.

“The $3.5 million project also generated up to 40 jobs during construction.”

The project was jointly funded by the Australian and State governments under the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program.
