Three new road projects to beat congestion are planned for Perth’s northern corridor as part of the Commonwealth and Western Australian State Government’s $2.3 billion investment in road and rail infrastructure.

The projects will remove bottlenecks from Wanneroo Road, leading to safer and more efficient journeys.

The Wanneroo road widening from Joondalup Drive to Flynn Drive will convert the existing single-lane road to a dual carriageway over 3.2km in each direction to remove a pinch point on Wanneroo Road, reduce travel times, provide an improved north-south alternative to Mitchell Freeway, and enhance access to the Wangara and Neerabup industrial parks.

A grade separation with Joondalup Drive passing over Wanneroo Road will remove congestion at the sixth most congested intersection in the metropolitan area and significantly reduce journey times for road users.

A grade separation with Wanneroo Road passing over Ocean Reef Road will address congestion at the seventh most congested intersection in the metropolitan area, providing major safety benefits and supporting the growth of future traffic volumes.
