The Victorian Government has passed new laws allowing for the trial of an automatic vehicle (AV) – a first in Australia.
Changes to the Road Safety Act will make permits available to those interested in testing AVs.
Initially requiring supervised testing, the trials will gradually become less supervised as vehicle safety gets the green light.
People can expect to see driverless cars on the roads from mid 2018, once regulations have been further developed and finalised.
Aiming to embrace this game-changing technology, the government is working towards reducing driver error and making roads safer.
The technology has the potential to save lives, helping to improve the safety of all Victorians on the road.
