The Northern Territory Government has awarded three tenders totalling $32.3 million to local companies to realign and upgrade Gunn Point Road.

The tender was awarded in three packages with work starting in April 2018.

Package 1 – Allan King & Sons Constructions – $10,019,822.06

Package 2 – Aldebaran Contracting – $8,578,280.55

Package 3 – Ostojic Group – $13,647,131.56

Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics, Nicole Manison, said the Gunn Point Road project will improve road safety, reduce travel times and damage to vehicles, and considerably reduce ongoing road maintenance costs.

“This government will do everything it can to support local business,” Ms Manison said.

“This project will mean 380 construction jobs over 12 months.  It will also enable the creation of many more by improving access and usability for fishing and tourism, extractive industries, and other commercial developments and recreational activities in the area.

“A key driver for this project is to facilitate Project Sea Dragon, a $1.45 billion prawn aquaculture project that will generate significant economic and employment opportunities for the community.”

Ms Manison said creating jobs means creating reasons to stay, live and invest in all that the Territory has to offer.

“This government will continue to invest Territory roads, create job opportunities for community.”

A planning study with community consultation was completed in February 2018 for this stage of the works, and further consultations are underway for future planned stages.
