Roads Australia Commonwealth Budget Submission National Road Safety Strategy

Austroads is seeking industry consultation on the Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management Part 9: Processes and Procedures.

Austroads’ Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management (CoPTTM) is being developed as part of the strategic priority project Safety at Road Worksites.

The intent of Austroads member authorities is to establish the nationally preferred and harmonised approach for undertaking temporary traffic management for works on roads.

The CoPTTM will be an eleven-part series that steps traffic control professionals through all of the processes, procedures and technical information required to develop, write, implement and manage traffic management requirements for work sites.

It has been developed based on best practice temporary traffic management practice in Australia and New Zealand, to assist road authorities to meet their existing legislative responsibilities for workplace and public safety.

Part 9 details the processes and procedures relating to jurisdictional management of temporary traffic management at roadworks.

The information included covers:

  • Categories of temporary traffic management
  • Powers, roles and responsibilities
  • Training
  • Standard forms and descriptions

It provides guidance to road authorities, road infrastructure managers, any party conducting works on or near a road, and all persons involved in planning, designing, implementing, managing and completing temporary traffic management works.

The industry comment period closes on Wednesday 17 July 2019.
