Australian Rail Track Corporation CEO announces retirement

John Fullerton has advised the Board of the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) that he intends to retire from his role as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of ARTC mid 2020.

ARTC Chairman, Warren Truss, said that Mr Fullerton has enjoyed a dedicated and successful engineering and business leadership career in the rail industry for 40 years, including almost ten years at the head of ARTC.

“He is a well-regarded and trusted executive right across the industry and under his tenure with ARTC has led a steep change in safety performance, customer focus and asset improvement.  He has also been instrumental in putting in place the organisation and skills to commence construction on the nation building Inland Rail project,” Mr Truss said.

“We know that John’s passion and commitment for ARTC and the national logistics industry are as strong as ever and that John and his Executive team remain focused on delivering on the Board and Shareholder’s strategic priorities.

Mr Truss described Mr Fullerton as one of the iconic figures in the modern Australian rail industry who has played a key role in enabling rail to transform itself to be a major partner in Australia’s future transport task.

“The Board is grateful that John has given early notice of his wish to retire and for his willingness to provide continuing leadership of the business to enable a planned and stable transition phase to a new CEO. The Board has engaged executive search firm, Spencer Stuart, to assist in the global search for the future ARTC CEO,” Mr Truss said.

“We acknowledge John’s desire to move on to the next phase of his life and thank him for his exceptional service to ARTC. We look forward to his continuing leadership and guidance over the months ahead and wish him good health and every happiness in the years ahead.”
