The level crossing in Cherry Street, Werribee will soon be replaced with a new road bridge following the confirmation of the bridge’s design.
The bridge will connect Tarneit Road in the north to the Princes Highway in the south, to be constructed east of the current crossing via an irrigation channel next to Wyndham City Council offices.
This will remove the Cherry Street level crossing, while a well-lit pedestrian underpass will also be built, connected by ramps and stairs to maintain pedestrian and cyclist access to homes and local shops.
To improve connectivity, there will also be a footpath on the new road bridge.
A new shared-use path along the rail line will connect the Princes Highway and the Tarneit Road intersection back to the pedestrian underpass at Cherry Street.
Major work on the project will start in 2020, with a site office to be established along the rail corridor east of the Cherry Street level crossing once a contract has been awarded.
Meanwhile, planning is progressing for designs at Old Geelong Road in Hoppers Crossing and Werribee Street in Werribee. Further consultation around these designs will take place next year once they are confirmed.
