The Sydenham Station upgrade – part of Sydney Metro –  is progressing with five large roof canopies recently installed.

The canopies, each weighing more than 20 tonnes, are part of a new pedestrian concourse, and required more than 400 people working 24-7 over two weeks to deliver.

The new pedestrian concourse will connect the two new plaza entrances to the station on Railway Parade and Burrows Avenue.

A 500 tonne crane installed roof canopies, which were built during a road closure on Burrows Avenue as they were too large to be transported by truck.

Other work at Sydenham included:

  • More than 3km of new overhead wiring installed as part of the remodelling of Sydenham Junction
  • 50km of new signal cabling installed
  • 6,000 tonnes of new track ballast was brought into the site

Platforms 1 and 2 have been closed so they can be upgraded to Sydney Metro platforms, including the installation of platform screen door technology.

Commuters on the T3 Bankstown Line will use platforms 3 and 4 at Sydenham until Sydney Metro opens in 2024.
