The Federal Government has invested $150 million towards the Barton Highway Duplication project, after the business case was published in February 2020.

Construction is expected to begin later in 2020 to duplicate the highway from the ACT towards Murrumbateman to improve safety and reduce travel times.

Federal Minister for Infrastructure Transport and Regional Development, Michael McCormack, said this new funding would directly benefit the people of Eden-Monaro, with almost $60 million from these programs alone.

“We know how crucial these programs are and we know what regional communities want, need, expect and most importantly deserve,” Mr McCormack said.

Mr McCormack stressed the Federal Government’s support of regional Australia, citing its decision to increase the Roads to Recovery program by $1.1 billion, increase Black Spot funding by $550 million and the Bridges Renewal and Heavy Vehicle Safety Productivity Program by a combined $550 million.
