Sydney’s Western City and Aerotropolis Authority is merging with the Western Parkland City to become the Western Parkland City Authority.
The Western Parkland City Authority is being established to assist the New South Wales Government in delivering a thriving Parkland City.
The decision follows the announcements of several other major developments in the Western Sydney area, including the new Sydney Metro to Western Sydney Airport, the arrival of CSIRO headquarters at the Aerotropolis and delivery of the Western Sydney City Deal ramping up.
New South Wales Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, Stuart Ayres, said the authority would be focused on integrated delivery across the Western Parkland City, including the Aerotropolis.
“Western Sydney is one of the fastest growing regions in the nation and this new-look Authority will ensure the Western Parkland City reaches its full potential,” Mr Ayres said.
“The Aerotropolis is at the heart of the city, and of our plans to maximise the jobs growth potential for Western Sydney in a post COVID-19 world, which means now is the time to look more holistically at the Western Parkland City.”
A broader authority boundary, which aligns with the entire area in the Western Sydney City Deal, is expected to allow the full benefits of a collaborative approach to master planning, infrastructure, investment attraction and housing acceleration across the whole of the Western Parkland City.
It has been designed to boost initiatives under the Western Sydney City Deal for a faster and more sustainable economic and community recovery from COVID-19.
Dr Sarah Hill, Chief Executive of the Greater Sydney Commission, will be appointed as the Chief Executive of the new-look authority.
Dr Hill commenced as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Sydney Commission in early 2016, leading the development of the vision for ‘a metropolis of three cities’ – a vision where most residents will live within 30 minutes of jobs, education and health facilities, services and great places.
“I am looking forward to maximising our existing collaborative relationships to a renewed focus on the delivery of our bold plans for the whole of the Western Parkland City,” Dr Hill said.
“I am strongly committed to ensuring the Western Parkland City is a world leader in smart technology, business attraction, job growth, environmental innovation and quality urban outcomes.”
The operations of the Western City and Aerotropolis Authority will continue as the Western Parkland City Authority.
