The NSW Government’s $178 million duplication of the Pacific Highway at Lisarow is set to achieve a milestone with girders for the new rail bridge ready to be lifted into place.

NSW Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Paul Toole, said the new rail bridge across the train line was a key feature of the duplication project, which will provide two lanes in each direction between Ourimbah Street and Parsons Road.

“This project will be a game changer for the 30,000 motorists who use this 1.6km section of road each day,” Mr Toole said.

“More than 1,000 people have helped shape this project so far, including more than 150 different suppliers and contractors.

“Work is also progressing to provide new traffic lights at the Railway Crescent and Macdonalds Road intersections, an upgrade to the existing traffic lights at The Ridgeway and improved access to parking at Lisarow Station.”

Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal, Adam Crouch, said a total of 27 girders will be lifted into place to make up the new rail bridge and approaches, replacing the existing narrow bridge.

“16 girders will make up the bridge deck and a further eleven will be lifted in to form the approach,” Mr Crouch said.

“Each of the 35m-long concrete girders were manufactured locally at Newcastle and weigh between 65 and 70 tonnes.

“Crews will use cranes to lift these into place, starting early on Saturday and continuing day-and-night throughout the weekend to coincide with an already scheduled maintenance closure of the rail line.”

Transport for NSW and its contractors will be working continuously during the scheduled rail shutdown between 6am on Saturday, 13 March and the early hours of Monday, 15 March, weather permitting.

Work will also involve transporting the girders from the nearby compound on the Pacific Highway and traffic delays of up to five minutes are expected while they are lifted into place.
