Barnaby Joyce has been appointed Leader of The Nationals and sworn in as the new Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, ousting Michael McCormack in a leadership spill.

The appointment of Mr Joyce, who has been on the backbench for three years, will continue a Liberal-National Coalition.

Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, said the parties have achieved a lot together, especially for rural and regional Australia, and hopes to ensure regions and rural communities thrive in the future.

Mr Joyce was previously Minister for Infrastructure Transport and Regional Development from December 2017 to February 2018.
