Transport and Main Roads Minister, Mark Bailey, has announced a new CEO for Queensland Rail, following the resignation of former Chief Executive Officer, Nick Easy, in 2021.

Mr Bailey confirmed Queensland Rail’s Chief Financial Officer, Kat Stapleton, as the incoming CEO.

“Kat is a highly experienced executive and has held senior positions with nbn co and Bahrain Telecommunications before joining Queensland Rail as CFO in 2019,” Mr Bailey said.

“Investment in rail is booming as our population surges and we prepare for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which is why Kat’s wealth of experience, her knowledge of Queensland Rail and her customer centric focus will be welcomed.

“This appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the 156-year-old organisation, and I look forward to working with Kat to continue Queensland Rail’s important work to connect communities.”

Queensland Rail Board Chair, David Marchant, welcomed Ms Stapleton’s appointment, following a thorough and competitive recruitment process.

“On behalf of the Board, I welcome Kat to the role and look forward to working together to deliver on Queensland Rail’s strategic priorities,” Mr Marchant said.

“I would also like to thank Kat, Scott Riedel and Rupert Holloway for acting in the CEO role these last months while this rigorous recruitment process was underway.”

Ms Stapleton will commence as CEO of Queensland Rail effective immediately.
