Concourse at Central Station

Sydney Metro has announced that upgrades to part of Central Station have been completed, with the opening of the brand new North-South concourse.

The North-South concourse is a 140m long transition zone linking Central Walk – the 80m long underground pedestrian link which opened in April 2023 – and the northern concourse.

There will be three new retail spaces in the North-South concourse area, along with back-of-house areas for Sydney Trains and Sydney Metro.

The North-South concourse area features a prominent ‘racetrack’ art piece by artist Rose Nolan, which reflects on Central Station’s built heritage with nods to the former ticketing office and brickwork of the northern concourse facades.

The new concourse will provide customers direct access to the metro platforms in 2024.

The platforms are 27m below the surface, connecting customers to fast and reliable metro services including Central Station to Chatswood Station in 15 minutes; Central Station to Victoria Cross Station in North Sydney in nine minutes; and Barangaroo in six minutes.
