The $24.5 million rebuild of the Moura Substation has been completed, ensuring reliable electricity supply to communities and industry in Central West Queensland.
On-ground works started at the Moura Substation in 2015. Crews replaced primary plant including busbars, overhead conductors, circuit breakers and isolators, as well as secondary systems which assist in the operation and control of the substation in the overall power system.
The substation was originally built more than 50 years ago and detailed condition assessments identified some equipment was reaching the end of its technical service life.
Minister for Energy, Dr Anthony Lynham, said the Moura Substation provides essential electricity supply to local communities like Biloela, Moura and Baralaba, and supports industrial growth in the region.
“Secure, affordable electricity supply is important to households, and critical to business and industry, and job growth.
“That’s why we are so focused on maintaining downward pressure on power prices with our publicly-owned electricity businesses.”
Powerlink Chief Executive, Merryn York, said all project works were carefully planned to avoid any disruptions to electricity supply in the area.
“The new equipment installed is more reliable, modern and efficient. This project will extend the life of the existing substation at the lowest long run cost to electricity consumers,” Ms York said.
Final works completed on-site included energising high voltage equipment, building internal roadways and constructing a helicopter landing pad to assist with potential emergency response activities.
