A design and construction contract has been awarded for the delivery of an upgrade on a northern section of Melbourne’s M80 Ring Road.
CPB Contractors, a company of the CIMIC Group, won the contract, and anticipates it will generate revenue of approximately $331 million.
The upgrade is located on the M80 Ring Road between Sydney Road and Edgars Road, approximately 14km north of the Melbourne CBD.
Funded by the Federal and Victorian Governments, the upgrade will increase capacity, reduce congestion and enhance safety for drivers.
Works include the widening and realignment of ramps, the construction of additional lanes, structural works, installation of a smart freeway management system, street lighting, traffic barriers, noise walls and landscaping.
Construction is scheduled to start in early 2020 and be completed in early 2023.
CPB Contractors, Managing Director, Juan Santamaria said, “We have a strong construction presence in Victoria and will be leveraging our extensive roads and civil construction experience to safely and successfully deliver this important freeway upgrade.
“We’ll bring local knowledge and industry-leading experience to deliver this upgrade with the least disruption possible, and with a commitment to meet and exceed important government policies such as Local Jobs First and the Social Procurement Framework.”
CIMIC Group Chief Executive Officer, Michael Wright, said, “CIMIC Group, through CPB Contractors, has substantial experience in delivering infrastructure projects across Victoria.
“Drawing on our significant expertise and strong teams of people, CPB Contractors will safely and efficiently complete this vital piece of infrastructure for the community. We are pleased to be selected to deliver this project for the Australian and Victorian Governments.”
