Victorian businesses and local government have been given a $4 million funding boost for major recycling projects to expand operations to recover valuable products and reduce waste going to landfill, by the State Government.

The infrastructure grants, which range from $40,000 to $500,000, can be used to purchase, install, commission or upgrade infrastructure or equipment to recover and reprocess higher-value priority materials to a commercial grade, or upgrade production lines to allow recycled content.

The funding is part of round four of the Resource Recovery Infrastructure Fund (RRIF) supported by Sustainability Victoria, which has awarded $14.5 million to 47 projects since mid-2017. These projects are expected to divert at least 770,000 tonnes per annum of materials from landfill and create over 285 jobs by 2021.

A further $1.2 million is now available to support the market development of recycled materials, under round two of the $4.5 million Research, Development & Demonstration Program.

The funds will support:

  • Greater sorting
  • Improve recovery
  • Reprocessing of priority materials outlined in the Market Development Strategy such as plastic, paper, cardboard and glass

Applications for round four of the RRIF will close at 3:00 pm on Tuesday 30 April 2019. More information can be found here.
