North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation’s (NQBP) Water Network Improvement Package will invest over $4 million to deliver three projects to upgrade water infrastructure.
NQBP Chief Executive Officer, Nicolas Fertin, said NQBP’s water network upgrade strategy prioritises the delivery of water infrastructure upgrades.
“NQBP is the water provider for more than 120 customers including tenants, commercial customers and port users,” Mr Fertin said.
“In support of our mission to manage safe and efficient ports, the works will increase efficiencies, linkages and water pressure, building new assets while removing redundant infrastructure.”
The first project, which is underway, sees the replacement of the port’s primary water feed along Harbour Road as well as infrastructure in Satellite Crescent and Ken White Avenue.
More than 450m of existing pipeline is expected to be removed and replaced by the end of June.
The $1.7 million construction contract, awarded to Queensland-based company Roebuck Civil, will support around seven local jobs.
Roebuck Civil Project Manager, Craig Bishop, said the company is looking forward to working with NQBP.
“Roebuck Civil are excited to install the new water main infrastructure at the Port of Mackay,” Mr Bishop said.
“Being awarded this contract certifies Roebuck Civil’s position in the industry and we will work hard to deliver a quality project.”
A further estimated $2.7 million will also be invested in a new water booster pump station and the installation of around 70 backflow prevention devices across the Port.
Works on these projects are expected to commence in the coming weeks with a focus on supporting additional local jobs.
