The Victorian Government will pursue improved accessibility for the rail transport network, as part of a $55.7 million package recently passed in the Victorian State Budget 2022/23.
Works to investigate options for improved accessibility will soon begin at Newport Station, which was attended by Minister for Public Transport, Ben Carroll, and Member for Williamstown, Melissa Horne, following the announcement.
The works at Newport Station will help develop options and designs for potential accessibility improvements and upgrades. The development process will start later this year.
Options presented will be considered with a range of key stakeholder groups to make sure proposed solutions meet the needs of all Victorians.
“We’re improving accessibility across the entire transport network through – making sure all Victorians can travel confidently, comfortably and safely,” Mr Carroll said.
“We know there is more work that needs to be done, which is why we are continuing to work with operators, community groups and locals to help make our transport network better for everyone.”
