The ACT Infrastructure Plan Update: Transport highlights a range of key road and active travel projects that will provide Canberrans with more options for moving around the city.
Outlining work completed since 2019 and further short, medium and long-term investments in the Territory’s transport system, the updated plan covers projects supporting those who move on foot, bike, car, bus or light rail.
This includes the extension of the light rail network south through the city to Commonwealth Park, the National Triangle and on to Woden.
Other initiatives include the Garden City and Kingston Cycleways, the Molonglo River Bridge, and road upgrades right across Canberra.
The release of the transport sector update reinforces the Government’s commitment to delivering the transport options needed for our growing city, which is on track to reach 500,000 people by 2027.
ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr said the government is continuing to deliver infrastructure and services for a growing Canberra.
“The release of the latest ACT Infrastructure Plan sector update reinforces our commitment to increase transport options for Canberrans, now and into the future,” Mr Barr said.
“This includes one-in-a-generation projects like Canberra’s light rail network, as well as significant upgrades across our suburbs.”
ACT Minister for Transport Chris Steel said, “The ACT Government envisions a transport system that supports a liveable, sustainable and connected city with flexible and reliable journey options.
“We understand Canberrans need a range of transport options to suit their needs, whether travelling by public transport, car, bike or on foot – or a combination of these.
“That’s why we’re investing in a range of projects to increase choice and accessibility, while reducing traffic congestion and emissions.”
