The Remote Airstrip Upgrade Program upgrade works to Injune Aerodrome’s signalling area and helipad are now complete.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Michael McCormack, said the Federal Government partnered with Maranoa Regional Council to fund the project through the Remote Airstrip Upgrade Program.

“The Federal Liberal and Nationals’ Government is committed to upgrading remote airstrips to ensure safe year-round access for communities and this is a great example of this investment delivering for the Maranoa region,” Mr McCormack said.

Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said the Coalition Government had extended the Remote Airstrip Upgrade Program in the 2018–19 Budget.

“Upgrades like we’ve done to the helipad are important for emergency choppers, including air ambulances,“ Mr Littleproud said.

“Because we are investing $28.3 million from 2018−19 to 2021−22, more airports are upgraded to provide safe, year-round access to remote communities.”

Council’s Portfolio Chair for Airports Cameron O’Neil said these much needed improvements would ensure the sustainability of the aerodrome and safety of users.

“Works included clearing, chip-sealing and painting of the signalling area, as well as repairs, resealing and clear edge markings for the helicopter landing area,” Mr O’Neil said.

“Without the help from the Australian Government, this upgrade would not have been possible.”
