The NSW Government will fast-track infrastructure and planning for an economic precinct to be built around Western Sydney Airport.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian hosted the Aerotropolis Investor Forum in Western Sydney, where more than 250 local and international business leaders gathered to secure their place in Australia’s newest economic zone – a 10,000-hectare greenfield site around the Western Sydney Airport.

“The Western Sydney Aerotropolis will be a dynamic, diverse precinct at the heart of the booming Western Sydney economy,” Ms Berejiklian said.

The government also announced that local and international business incentives will be offered to those who set up shop at Badgerys Creek.

“The Aerotropolis will create jobs in aerospace and defence, manufacturing, healthcare, freight and logistics, agribusiness, education and research.

“Local and international companies have a unique opportunity to set up shop in this vast, greenfield site and help create a vibrant economic zone for Western Sydney and for NSW.

“The Aerotropolis is set to be a thriving hub for high-skill jobs in advanced industries complementing the 28,000 direct and indirect jobs generated by the airport by 2031.”

The NSW Government will assist businesses to set up in Western Sydney by streamlining planning processes, fast-tracking infrastructure and pursuing enhanced digital connectivity including 5G technologies with telecommunication providers.

“We are also setting up a Western Sydney Development Authority with the Commonwealth Government – and newly appointed Chief Coordinator Geoff Roberts – to work on early delivery of utilities and other infrastructure, speeding up development and reducing costs for business,” Ms Berejiklian said.

State, Federal and local Governments are investing an unprecedented $20 billion of public funding into transport, health and education infrastructure in the region around the airport and Aerotropolis.

The Western Sydney City Deal will deliver the transport infrastructure that will connect the airport and Aerotropolis to the broader Sydney network – including a new North South Rail Link. There is also the potential expansion of the West Metro from Parramatta to Badgerys Creek.

The City Deal will deliver the educational institutions we need to support the skilled workforce of the future – dedicated schools, vocational training centres, skills exchanges and a new university focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
