Airport Safety Week has officially kicked off, under the theme of “The Hearts and Minds of Safety Leadership”.
Airport Safety Week is an initiative of the Australian Airports Association (AAA). Safety is paramount to AAA members and the aviation industry is constantly working to better manage risk in the workplace.
The safety of airport staff and the communities they serve will be a key focus for the week, as well as the importance of addressing psychosocial hazards.
“It’s important we not only look at the physical safety risks in airports, but also the psychological factors that could impact staff and passengers,” AAA Head of Policy and Advocacy Natalie Heazlewood said.
“If workers are experiencing adverse mental health or negative social influences in the community, we need better education about these challenges and to let them know we are always there to support them.
“It’s vital everyone in the industry not only knows how to maintain a safe workplace environment, but also recognises safety is the top priority.
“This week helps our members connect and share ideas, boosting collective knowledge that will flow onto improved risk management systems and a safety-focused organisational culture.”
As part of Airport Safety Week, airports will host a range of events based on daily themes along with activities including quizzes, and resources such as tool kits and relevant guidance for members.
