Another $2 million for road upgrades in Adelaide

Kurralta Park’s Marion Road will have 2km resurfaced as part of a package of more than $2 million of roadworks in Adelaide.

The $985,000 project will improve the road surface on the stretch of Marion Road between Anzac Highway and Desmond Avenue.

Another $1.1 million is being invested to resurface 2km of St Bernards and Newton roads in Newton between Gorge Road and Koonga Avenue.

The State Government is investing more than half-a-billion dollars on road maintenance and safety over four years including an additional $110 million 2015-16 State Budget investment.

The $110 million investment will deliver more than 185 critical road projects supporting more than 300 jobs.

The works in Newton are underway and are scheduled to be completed by the first weekend of April 2017, while the Marion Road works will start the following week and are expected to be completed by April 29, weather permitting.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Stephen Mullighan said, “We have significantly increased our investment in road maintenance and safety projects, with an extra $110 million, and with more than half a billion dollars to spend, we are upgrading more roads more often.

“We know that the quality of our roads can make a big difference to the people who use them every day, whether it’s to commute, for the school run, to transport goods and freight, or simply to head out on the weekend.

“These arterial roads projects complement the multibillion investment we’re making on major transport infrastructure projects across the State, including the North South Corridor projects which will draw through traffic from adjacent corridors such as Marion Road.”

Labor candidate for Badcoe Jayne Stinson said, “As a local I regularly travel on this road and know it’s ripe for an upgrade, so I’m delighted the State Government’s making this investment in our community.

“The upgrade will improve safety and make the journey smoother for drivers and passengers.”
