Some of Australia’s top technical minds want the re-elected Federal Government to hit the ground running.

The Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) has congratulated Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the Australian Labor Party on their re-election, highlighting it as an opportunity to drive national innovation and productivity growth.

ATSE says it is standing ready to collaborate with the returning government.

“We look forward to continuing to work with government, bringing us together to drive our national research, development and innovation priorities,” said ATSE CEO Kylie Walker.

Walker called for strong investment in education, innovation, and STEM talent to build a resilient and diversified Australian economy.

“Nurturing and attracting excellent STEM talent; investing in the infrastructure and international collaborations necessary to innovate; and building our investment in STEM research and STEM-powered industry will lead to a stronger, more diversified economy,” she said.

ATSE says there are some critical sectors where Australia can establish global leadership, including climate change technologies, renewable energy, clean fuels, critical minerals, health technology, and environmental monitoring.

ATSE’s collaboration with the Federal Government will include working through initiatives like the Global Science and Technology Diplomacy Fund, delivered in partnership with the Australian Academy of Science.
