AusRAIL 2016 will feature Australasia’s largest rail exhibition, alongside conference sessions and networking events at the Adelaide Convention and Exhibition Centre between 22-23 November.

Up to 160 organisations will be exhibiting, while the conference will attract more than 700 attendees with a program that includes plenary sessions, technical streams and the well-respected CEO forum.

As both passenger and freight rail contributes over $4.2 billion to the national economy each year, this year’s conference and exhibition will focus on the theme of ‘Rail – Moving the Economy Forward’.

The finalists have also been announced for the AusRAIL Young Rail Professionals Pitching Competition, with the winner to be announced at the AusRAIL Gala Dinner.

The competition received submissions from Australia and abroad covering social, economic, technical, engineering and marketing ideas that could dramatically enhance rail in Australia.

The range of topics selected provides an insight into the range of innovation and ingenuity within the industry’s young railway professionals.

The finalists for this year’s competition include:

  • Alexandra Baranksi, Graduate Engineer (Electrical), Aurizon – Title: CBD Solar Light Rail
  • Jason Bridgman, Systems Development and Support, Train Planning, Operations Planning, Operations, Sydney Trains – Title: A Smarter Rail Way – Intelligent Monitoring of Assets
  • James Donovan, Graduate Engineer, Metro Trains Melbourne – Title: The use of passive soundwave interpretation along rails to detect and predict rail defects, lubrication quality and thermal factors
  • Michelle Doolan, Civil & Environmental Engineer, Aurecon / MMRA – Title: Delightful diversion? – Generating public excitement for rail infrastructure
  • Ben Mason, Economist, Arup – Title: Revisiting economic appraisal for rail projects
