VicRoads will undertake bridge strengthening works along sections of the Princes Highway between Darnum and Morwell to improve access for heavy vehicles.
VicRoads Eastern Regional Director, Scott Lawrence, said that these major bridge strengthening improvements are necessary to provide a safer transport route along these sections of the Princes Highway for heavy vehicles.
“The Princes Highway is a major transport route and it is essential that we ensure that the bridges are strengthened so that they can continue to support large volumes of heavy vehicles on a daily basis,” Mr Lawrence said.
Works will begin at the Little Moe River Bridge on the eastbound lane of the Princes Highway in February 2018.
The bridge is located between Nilma and Darnum.
The Little Moe River Bridge will be strengthened with carbon fibre and a reinforced concrete bridge deck overlay.
New bridge barriers and guard fence will also be installed.
Works will also begin in February 2018 on the Morwell River Flood Plain Bridge on the eastern side of the Princes Highway, located just before the Princes Drive exit into Morwell.
Works on the flood plain bridge are being completed on the underside of the bridge.
They will also involve the installation of carbon fibre, as well as strengthening and enlarging the concrete bridge pier foundation.
