The Western Australian Government has awarded the civil works tender for a package of works at Bunbury Port.

South-west company Carbone Bros has been awarded the tender to complete road and parking works within the Southern Ports Authority, Port of Bunbury precinct

The project will upgrade the road entrance to Berth 8, and will improve the flow of traffic along Leschenault Drive by providing designated parking areas for trucks entering the berth.

The Leschenault Drive road works complement other major works underway at Berth 8 to improve the longevity of the berth structure and provide greater efficiencies for operations.

Major works currently being undertaken on Berth 8 include arranging fenders along the entirety of the berth and replacing the shuttle winch, at a cost of $2.2 million.

Other works include replacing aging infrastructure and improving the utilisation and efficiency of water usage.

Southern Ports Authority is in the process of identifying a range of projects across the Albany, Bunbury and Esperance ports that can be progressed to support local jobs.

Western Australian Ports Minister, Alannah MacTiernan, said, “While Western Australia has been tackling COVID-19, our Government continues to drive new opportunities for our regional communities.

“As WA transitions into reopening the economy, the progression of projects such as this will play an important role in our COVID-19 economic recovery.

“It is more important than ever that projects that support local businesses and keep people employed continue to progress.”

MLA Member for Bunbury, Don Punch, said, “There has never been a more important time to focus on local content than now.

“I thank the Minister and Southern Ports for ensuring local jobs are a clear objective.”
