The upgrade to the Cumberland Highway and Cabramatta Road intersection in Cabramatta, New South Wales, will begin its first stage.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the NSW government had committed $3.5 million in the 2016/17 financial year for the project, as part of its $246 million Pinch Point and Clearways program.
“The Cumberland Highway is a significant route for local road users in South West Sydney as well as being a key connection between the Pacific Highway at Wahroonga and the Hume Highway at Liverpool,” the spokesperson said.
“The upgrade to the Cumberland Highway at the intersection of Cabramatta Road includes extending the third north and southbound lanes on Cumberland Highway from the bridge across Cabramatta Creek to Cabramatta Road.
“On Cabramatta Road the westbound right turn bay will be extended and the eastbound right turn bay will be duplicated to improve traffic movements through the intersection.
“The project will improve traffic flow for some of the around 48,000 vehicles travelling on the Cumberland Highway every week day.
“The first stage of work will be delivered during day shifts and up to 15 night shifts before Friday 23 December 2016, weather permitting.
“It is expected the project will be completed by late 2017, weather permitting.”
Changed traffic conditions may be in place during work hours and motorists are advised to follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs and to keep to speed limits.
