WSAA logistics hub scoping study

A new scoping study has identified that the Western Sydney Aerotropolis will require an Integrated Logistics Hub by 2026, when Western Sydney Airport becomes operational.

The Integrated Logistics Hub Scoping Study, carried out by Deloitte in partnership with Crimson & Co and Arcadis, is a crucial step forward in the development of a resilient supply chain solution in NSW.

The study concluded there is a need to identify and reserve a site of up to 300 hectares for the long-term needs of an Integrated Logistics Hub and explore opportunities to enable early activation of such a facility.

It argued that the development of a state-of-the-art logistics hub would make Western Sydney the new global gateway for freight in Australia.

NSW Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, Stuart Ayres, said the combination of an Integrated Logistics Hub in the Aerotropolis with the recently announced Mamre Road freight precinct and the St Marys Intermodal would turn the region into a global logistics powerhouse.

“The hub in the Aerotropolis will be a crucial link for freight into the new airport and will be one of the pillars which underpins the success of the Agribusiness Precinct and the Aerotropolis more broadly,” Mr Ayres said.

“We know there is already strong industry interest and support for such a facility in the Aerotropolis and that is why the Western City & Aerotropolis Authority commissioned this important study.

“We are doing our homework to make sure we get this facility right because it is ultimately what will make it possible for produce to be exported from a Western Sydney paddock to an international plate in under 36 hours.”

The next step will be the creation of a delivery strategy for an Integrated Logistics Hub, which will enable the safe, secure and seamless movement of products through the airside operations at the neighbouring Western Sydney International Airport.
