Following Transurban’s $9.3 billion acquisition of WestConnex, Dennis Cliche has stepped down and Andrew Head has taken his place as the project’s Chief Executive Officer.
Five years into the decade-long project, Sydney’s road infrastructure project has reached new heights, with the M4 road widening and King George Road Interchange upgrade being completed in 2017.
All stages of WestConnex, Australia’s largest transport infrastructure project, is due for completion by 2024. The M4 East is currently preparing for motorists as its 2019 deadline is fast approaching.
The 10th Annual NSW Major Projects Conference 2018 will play host to Andrew Head on 21 and 22 November at the Sydney International Convention Centre, where he will provide delegates with a project update.
Mr Head will address the impending construction of the M4 – M5 link mainline tunnels, while also providing a tunnelling update on the new M5 and construction of the St Peters Interchange, and the soon to be opened M4 tunnels.
Throughout the construction process, the WestConnex has created upwards of 10,000 jobs for citizens, opening up new accessible routes for motorists and easing congestion on Sydney roads. Connecting bustling CBDs, this major road transport infrastructure project has generated a new and beneficial highway for the state.
With the entirety of the state anticipating a surge in its population, sustainable urban growth avenues must be highlighted, debated and explored. This year’s conference will see the convergence of senior level experts sit down, in the form of a panel discussion, to discuss the future of New South Wales.
Dr Jennifer Kent of University of Sydney, Matt Coetzee of Aurecon and Philip Vivian of Bates Smart will join Steve Mann of the Urban Development Institute of Australia – NSW in the panel discussion, which will examine the creation of long-term sustainable infrastructure through industry collaboration, and effective and efficient urban planning.
