Water Corporation has begun construction on a $10 million water distribution pipeline to provide clean drinking water to residents in the City of Cockburn.
The 2.6km pipeline is being installed underneath the intersection at Beeliar Drive and Armadale Road, before diverting north along Solomon Road in Treeby.
Currently home to around 4,200 residents, Treeby is one of several fast-growing suburbs in the City of Cockburn and is expected to see an additional 3,000 new homes built by 2035.
Western Australia Water Minister, Simone McGurk, said, “Unlocking new land and creating access to affordable housing is a key priority of the State Government. For that to happen we need to invest in water infrastructure that will allow future communities to thrive and prosper.
“This pipeline is a $10 million commitment to ensure existing residents, as well as those who’ll call the area home in the future, have a reliable supply of clean drinking water.
“The State Government is continuing to invest in the growth and development of our suburbs, with $35.7 million spent on water projects in Perth in 2022–23 and a further $97.8 million budgeted over the next three years.”
The new pipeline will ease pressure on existing water infrastructure in the area, reducing the potential for leaks and bursts while providing greater supply reliability to residents in Treeby and the nearby growth suburbs of Banjup and Jandakot.
Undertaken by Western Australian-based Valmec, part of the Altrad Group, the project will create more than 50 jobs during construction and take approximately six months to complete, with work carefully planned to minimise disruption to residents and businesses.
The Western Australia State Government, through Water Corporation, has invested $163.9 million in 2022–23 to ensure an ongoing supply of fresh drinking water to Perth homes and businesses.
Western Australia Member for Jandakot, Yaz Mubarakai, said, “Being just 25 minutes from the CBD, Jandakot and its surrounding suburbs are a great place to live, raise a family, or invest, so it’s unsurprising to see the area growing so quickly.
“Projects such as this by Water Corporation demonstrate the important role government agencies have in supporting land development, which in turn fuels the construction of new homes at a time it’s really needed.
“I welcome this investment from the State Government which will ensure current and future residents benefit from a safe and reliable water network.”
