Construction work completed in Victoria has grown 18.6 per cent over 2018 while the national total fell.

Australian Bureau of Statistics data confirms construction work undertaken in Victoria is up by $2.18 billion over 2018, the highest dollar-value growth of all the states.

In the June quarter alone, construction rose by 3.9 per cent or $514.8 million – more than double the national increase of 1.6 per cent.

For 2018, while construction work in Victoria was up 18.6 per cent, on a national level it was down 0.1 per cent.

Engineering construction led Victorian growth, with a 32.6 per cent increase, while non-residential building construction was the driver of growth in the June quarter, with a 15 per cent increase.

Victoria now contributes more than a quarter of the total value of construction work completed across the nation.

Treasurer, Tim Pallas, said, “The data is more good news for Victorians – our economy continues to lead the nation and create jobs.

“Victoria continues to go from strength to strength thanks to our strong economic management, investing in the infrastructure Victorians need.”

Since November 2014, the Victorian Government’s extensive infrastructure program has contributed to the creation of 370,000 Victorian jobs – 234,300 of them full time.
