A $595,000 contract has been awarded for road and drainage work at Beadon Creek Maritime Facility at Onslow in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, making vehicle and truck movements safer.
Onslow-based company NTC Contracting was awarded the contract for the construction of a new turning circle, fuel access road and completion of a drainage upgrade at the busy facility.
These upgrades mark the completion of five stages of the $2.5 million infrastructure upgrade that started in 2013, which has seen resealing works (2013), the construction of a Department of Transport harbour office and implementation of CCTV (2015) followed by the relocation of overhead power to underground (2016).
Transport Minister, Rita Saffioti, said, “Beadon Creek is an important operations base for fishing and charter vessels, and also those in the growing marine service industry supporting oil and gas and other operations in the Pilbara region.
“The new turning circle (at the southern end of Beadon Creek Road) and purpose-built access road will improve safety for vehicles in general and, in particular, for trucks delivering fuel to the facility twice a week.
“Development of the southern end of the facility in recent years has highlighted the need for improved drainage especially in storm events.
“The improvements will also improve access to businesses in the area.”
Construction is expected to begin in July 2017 with project completion scheduled by September 2017, creating employment for ten workers over the construction period.
