Roads and Maritime Services has announced Ertech as the successful tenderer to carry out the upgrade of Gocup Road between Doctors Hill and Halfway Hill, including new overtaking lanes, and widening and realigning the road.
A Roads and Maritime spokesperson said the NSW Government has committed $70 million across five years to upgrade Gocup Road to provide improved freight access and safety for all vehicles, including $23.5 million in the 2017 financial year.
“Work to be carried out between Doctors Hill and Halfway Hill will involve providing two overtaking lanes, widening and realigning the road, as well as installing safety barriers and two permanent bus stops,” the spokesperson said.
“Roads and Maritime Services received six tenders from qualified contractors in a competitive tender process for this work.
“Work is expected to start on this section of Gocup Road from early October and be completed in June 2019, weather permitting. The community will be advised of any changed traffic conditions associated with this work once it has been scheduled.”
The spokesperson said the upgrade of Gocup Road has been under way progressively since 2012 and aims to provide a safer road environment to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes for all vehicles.
“The Gocup Road upgrades are a medium to long-term action in the NSW Long Term Transport Master Plan and the Murray-Murrumbidgee Regional Transport Plan,” the spokesperson said.
“The aim is to support more efficient high productivity vehicle access, particularly for the local timber and milling industry, while being sensitive to the area’s natural environment, heritage and local communities.
“Since work on the Gocup Road upgrade started, six projects have been completed at Meadow Creek, South Minjary, Quidong, Smarts Road, Quidong Corner and Stuckeys Creek.
“Gocup Road links the Snowy Mountains Highway at Tumut to the Hume Highway at Gundagai.”
