The contract to construct the $220.2 million New Dubbo Bridge spanning New South Wales’ Wambuul-Macquarie River has been awarded.
Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure has been selected as the successful contractor to build the New Dubbo Bridge across the Wambuul-Macquarie River, the floodplain and the adjoining road construction.
Funding for the project comprises $176 million from the Australian Government and $44 million from the New South Wales Government.
Early works on the proposed 660m bridge commenced in August 2022 with the Brisbane Street and Darling Street intersection works now well underway.
Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Catherine King, said recent events had evidenced the need for climate-resilient transport infrastructure.
“As we’ve seen in the recent flood events, roads and bridges are a vulnerable point which can leave communities cut off and put drivers at risk. The New Dubbo Bridge will transform the way residents and freight operators travel in and through Dubbo and western New South Wales,” Ms King said.
New South Wales Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Sam Farraway, said the project would support Dubbo’s local economy.
“Twenty per cent of the qualified tradespersons working on the project must also be apprentices, providing those who are just starting out their career a chance to work on a legacy project that will change the shape of Dubbo,” Mr Farraway said.
The project team is working on finalising the detailed design for the beautification of Wiradjuri Park with community consultation to commence this year, with the park required to be closed throughout construction.
