Critical NSW road project secures state funding

Dubbo Regional Council has received just under $1 million in funding for Stage 2 of the Ballimore Road project, under the latest round of the Fixing Local Roads program.

The funding from the NSW Nationals in the State Government was provided to create safer journeys across the Dubbo Local Government Area.

Nationals Member for Dubbo, Dugald Saunders, said Ballimore Road Stage 2 will include the reconstruction and sealing of intersections with Windora and Wongajong Lanes, the replacement of safety barriers, line marking, installation of new signs and guide posts, and upgrades of the bridge at Finns Crossing.

“Ballimore Road provides a direct connection between the highly productive rural sectors from the north, east, south and west of the area. It provides an essential and direct transport route both within and outside of the LGA,” Mr Saunders said.

“The safe and efficient functioning of this road is key to maintaining and improving access to these rural and remote communities. Travel times will be reduced, and safety at two sweeping curves will be improved significantly by the sealing of this section of road.”

Dubbo Regional Council Mayor, Stephen Lawrence, said Ballimore Road captures traffic from within the rural localities of Windora, Comobella, and Ballimore.

“It’s fantastic that we’ve been able to secure the funding for Stage 2 of the Ballimore Road sealing,” Mr Lawrence said.

“Much of the traffic generated on the road is related to rural and remote health, education and community. These are day-to-day activities that require the safe and efficient functioning of the road, and I thank the State Government for the funding.”

Fixing Local Roads is a $500 million program of the NSW Nationals in the State Government, boosted by an additional $191 million from the NSW Nationals in the Federal Government.
