$2.3 million worth of upgrades to the Dennis Bridge in Port Macquarie, New South Wales, have been completed.
Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams, said the work was funded under the NSW Government’s $1.5 billion maintenance program which aims to improve the state’s roads.
“The work on Dennis Bridge across the Hastings River involved major repairs and maintenance of the structure to maintain capacity and reduce costs in the long term,” Mrs Williams said.
“The bridge was also painted to remove corrosion, which is caused by a combination of salt water from the river, sea breeze and other factors.”
Mrs Williams said the steel truss bridge built in 1961 has served the Port Macquarie community well, and it’s important to maintain the crossing so it continues to meet local traffic demand once the new bridge over the Hastings River opens in late October 2017.
“Major maintenance work started at the end of January this year and was completed at the end of September.”
