The Victorian Government has released early designs for a new station in Tarneit, with construction set to commence in 2025.
Tarneit’s new station will be located near Davis and Leakes roads and will include two platforms with an accessible pedestrian underpass for crossing the rail line.
The new station will feature a four-bay bus interchange, and a new road will be built off Leakes Road – providing access to 400 new car parks for local commuters.
Separated pedestrian and cycling paths will also be built as part of the precinct – along with a landscaped area with seating and secure bike storage.
Final designs will be released and construction is set to commence in 2025 – with the new station expected to take passengers in 2026.
The local community are now encouraged to have their say on naming the new station, with names being considered including West Tarneit, Tarneit Rise, Sunray, Davis Creek and Melaleuca stations – reflecting local landmarks and the environment.
A planning study is also underway for a new station at Truganina, which will boost transport options in the western suburbs.
This project follows the removal of three level crossings in Deer Park and Ardeer, which has made the line boom gate free between Deer Park and the city – reducing congestion and improving safety.
Also in Melbourne’s west, work is about to start on the removal of four level crossings on the Melton Line and building a new Melton Station by 2026, while planning continues on the $650 million Melton Line Upgrade, which will increase capacity on the line by 50 per cent.
Victorian Minister for Transport Infrastructure, Danny Pearson, said, “We are getting on with delivering more transport connections in Melbourne’s growing west – with the new Tarneit station set to help people get to where they need to go.
“Tarneit’s second station will ensure locals in Melbourne’s west stay connected – with more train services set to reach their doorstep.”
Member for Tarneit, Dylan Wight, said, “This project will create a vibrant new station precinct, featuring a landscaped entrance, dedicated pedestrian and cycling paths throughout, and 400 additional car parking spaces as promised.
“The new station will offer a crucial alternative to the current Tarneit Station, enhancing public transport access for local commuters.”
