The new METRONET Midland Station, bus interchange and multi-storey car park – which is part of Midland’s program to become a dynamic regional centre – has been approved for development.

The new station will relocate and replace Midland’s existing train station, bus interchange and associated parking areas.

In addition to delivering quality new infrastructure for the community, the station will improve connection to the existing retail areas, while maintaining the railway’s central role in the area.

Western Australia Transport Minister, Rita Saffioti, said the approval of this development application marks an important milestone in another METRONET project, and a program of works that is delivering new transport infrastructure for communities across the city.

“The new METRONET Midland Station will include a new 12-stand bus interchange, a multi-storey carpark with more than 800 bays as well as new cycling and pedestrian routes to get to the station,” Ms Saffioti said.

“Importantly, we’re opening new land for redevelopment which will help to encourage the establishment of new businesses in the area, more people living near Midland Station and the revitalisation of the heart of Midland.”

The project incorporates sustainable design principles, and will reflect the area’s Aboriginal culture and heritage as well as its industrial character through materials, artwork and architecture.

Landscaping design includes a number of ‘pocket parks’ with local native and waterwise plant species, and a substantial number of new tree plantings.

The new station is part of an urban renewal program in Midland, which is transforming the city to include a new revitalised urban village, a world-class health and education hub, new shopping options, and high-quality transit links – thanks to almost $1 billion worth of government and private sector investment.

Midland MLA, Michelle Roberts, welcomed the announcements made on development applications being approved for METRONET Midland Train Station, Bus Interchange and Multi-story Carpark.

“The delivery of this new train station and surrounding assets will continue the revitalisation of Midland and transform the heart of our community into a dynamic Regional Centre”.

Construction of the station, bus interchange and car park is expected to be completed in 2025.
