A $5 million resurfacing project has been completed at Devonport Airport in Tasmania to allow for greater passenger movement and an increase in carriers.

The project involved the installation of an asphalt overlay to the runway surface to maintain the runway’s structural integrity, safety and performance, and its completion will enable the airport to better deal with passenger growth and increase the potential for new carriers.

This will extend the lifespan of the airport’s runway by 15 years and enhance the possibility of more flights and larger aircraft using this modern airport into the future.

Devonport is a major Tasmanian gateway with around 570,000 passenger movements between the Devonport Airport and the Spirit of Tasmania terminal.

The airport has experienced an 11 per cent increase in passenger numbers since 2014, and saw a record-breaking year in 2015-16.
