Simon Vaux is a chartered civil engineer with 18 years’ experience managing the delivery of transport infrastructure, having worked in both the private and public sectors in Australia and the UK. Simon is currently working as Director, Digital Engineering at Transport for NSW (TfNSW).
Simon is presenting at Engineers Australia’s upcoming Risk Engineering & Project Controls Conference (RISK-PCC) to share his insights on how digital engineering is shaping major projects.
This leading industry event is being delivered by a successful collaboration between a number of key technical associations, including Risk Engineering Society (RES), Australian Cost Engineering Society (ACES) and AACEi.
We had a quick chat to Simon about his work and the upcoming conference.
Tell us about your current role
Simon Vaux: I’m currently leading the long-term strategy to implement Digital Engineering (DE) within Transport. The resulting TfNSW DE Framework will provide a consistent approach to DE across the Transport cluster, through a program of strategic business transformation and industry collaboration.
What’s the most interesting project you’ve worked on?
SV: I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my current role leading the development of the DE Framework. This program is driving innovation and providing direction to industry, through a new, more holistic approach to DE. This will enable a step change in productivity and provide long-term benefits to our industry.
How would you sum up your approach to engineering in three words?
SV: Innovative, collaborative, strategic.
Why do you think conferences like RISK-PCC are important?
SV: Conferences like RISK-PCC provide an excellent opportunity to meet with business leaders and share innovative ideas about the future of our industry.
What are you most looking forward to at RISK-PCC?
SV: Hearing from thought leaders throughout the event, question time directly after my presentation and of course the networking.
