A major upgrade to improve customer access, comfort and security at Berala Station in Western Sydney will move ahead with early works and site investigations stating at the end of July 2016.
The upgrades will include a new lift, canopies, a family accessible toilet, wayfinding signs, new CCTV and improved interchange areas including a kiss and ride zone where parents can drop off and pick up their children without having to find a park.
To prepare for the start of construction, hoarding installations, survey works, geotech and other service investigations will be undertaken during a scheduled rail shutdown on Saturday 30 July and Sunday 31 July.
A Transport for New South Wales Spokesperson said, “This early work marks the start of an upgrade to boost access and security for the local community and make catching public transport a much more attractive option.
“The NSW Government has committed a significant investment to upgrading public transport infrastructure and we’re getting on with the job of delivering improvements that will make a real difference to our customers.”
The Berala Station upgrade is part of the New South Wales Government’s Transport Access Program, an initiative to deliver modern, safe and accessible transport infrastructure.
Other station upgrades that have been completed as part of the program include upgrades at Bankstown, Canley Vale, Clarendon, Fairfield, Ingleburn, Mulgrave and Riverstone Stations.
Work is also now underway to upgrade Flemington Station and an upgrade is planned for Homebush Station.
Construction on Berala Station is expected to be completed in 2018.
