EastLink recognised for exemplary customer stewardship

EastLink has been announced as one of Australia’s Customer Stewardship 2017 Exemplars by the University of Sydney John Grill Centre for Project Leadership.

The John Grill Centre for Project Leadership’s Better Infrastructure Initiative is championing the notion of customer-led infrastructure as the cornerstone of a new reform agenda for policy makers, investors and infrastructure operators.

Customer-led infrastructure is an acknowledgment that what customers care about is not the infrastructure as a physical asset – but the services, which are delivered to them using that infrastructure.

The John Grill Centre for Project Leadership identified a small number of infrastructure operators, including EastLink, as Australia’s Customer Stewardship 2017 Exemplars to help complete the picture as to what good customer stewardship looks like and how it is being practised in Australia.

EastLink Spokesperson Doug Spencer-Roy said EastLink is delighted to be one of Australia’s Customer Stewardship 2017 Exemplars identified by the University of Sydney John Grill Centre for Project Leadership.

“EastLink provides the highest levels of service to customers and communities, at the lowest toll prices in Australia,” Mr Spencer-Roy said.

“EastLink is Melbourne’s fastest road, with customers achieving an average speed of 95km/h (excluding the tunnels, which have a speed limit up to 80km/h).

“EastLink’s intelligent transport systems, 24/7 control room and 24/7 incident response teams combine to make EastLink the safest freeway in Melbourne. The average time to respond and attend at a motor vehicle accident is less than five minutes.

“Our 480 hectares of landscaping is not just visually appealing – it includes the 35km EastLink Trail used by the local community, and 60 wetlands treat rainwater running off the road surface to ensure that water is returned to a relatively high quality before entering local creeks.

“In an Australian first, EastLink has recently upgraded its ten tunnel exhaust fans to incorporate variable speed drives, which will result in considerable direct energy savings and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The upgrade will also reduce vent stack fan noise in the adjacent community.”
