Expressions of interest are now open to build the $300 million Mordialloc Bypass project.
The nine-kilometre bypass will link the Mornington Peninsula Freeway at Springvale Road, Aspendale Gardens to the Dingley Bypass in Dingley Village.
Minister for Roads, Luke Donnellan, said, “We’re building the Mordialloc Bypass to slash congestion and improve safety in some of the south east’s fastest growing areas.”
When complete the new arterial road will improve safety and traffic flow providing Melbourne’s growing south eastern suburbs with better access to local jobs and recreational centres.
The new bypass includes two new bridges, four new intersections and new off-road paths for cyclists and pedestrians.
Member for Mordialloc, Tim Richardson, said, “This project will unlock congestion through the south east and transform the way Melburnians move – ensuring better access to jobs, schools and recreational centres.”
A preferred candidate to build the project is expected to be announced later in 2018..
An Environment Effects Statement is currently being drafted which will consider how best to manage potential environmental, social, economic and cultural impacts.
